Millers boss pleased with home victory...

Rotherham United boss Steve Evans praised his players after they battled with a man down to gain all three points at home to Port Vale.

Richie Smallwood saw red minutes before the half-time break, but Kieran Agard’s 21st league goal of the season ensured the points stayed in South Yorkshire.

“I think that first and foremost we’re very proud to have made the play offs and we know what we get from them (the team); we get hunger and desire, effort and passion which has led to the win today. We were poor first half and Paul Raynor identified that we didn’t really look on the front foot in the warm-up, but we regrouped well in the second half and were better with 10 men.”

Smallwood’s red card came whilst the scores were level, and the Millers boss says he will need to assess it in more detail before deciding whether to appeal the decision, but the important thing for the club is to continue picking up points and having a squad ready ahead of the play offs.

“We need to take a closer look at it,” added Evans. “Like the rest of the ground we were a bit stunned, but we’ll have a look at it, and if he’s gone in as he shouldn’t then he’ll serve his three matches, but if not then we’ll consider an appeal. It’s just essential that we win every game we play, and get some players more minutes out on the pitch.”
