Steve Evans post Wolverhampton Wanderers...

Manager Steve Evans said he was proud of Rotherham United’s second half performance after they were edged out by League One front-runners Wolves in a 6-4 thriller at Molineux.

The Millers took the lead through Kieran Agard but found themselves 3-1 behind at the interval before staging a remarkable fightback to level at 4-4 late in the game. Despite their heroic efforts Wolves snatched a winner before capping their display with a sixth as the Millers went in search of a late equaliser.

Manager Evans admitted his pride at the way the Millers never gave up and took confidence from the four goals netted against the Champions-elect.

“We started well, we got a goal and we caused them some problems but then we had a 10 minute spell where we didn’t defend properly and they’ve got Premiership players,” said Evans.

“Even at half-time, when Wolves have had a lot of the play we’ve said we’re still in this game and if we can get a goal we can do ok if we get it down and pass it. I have to say for around 30 minutes we gave them a battering and we got ourselves back level.

“What a fantastic advert for League One football and what an absolute honour it was to come to Wolverhampton Wanderers football club, they are an outstanding club from top to bottom and we wish them every success. People can talk about the investment and the parachute payments but you still have to produce a football team that wins football matches and Kenny Jacket has done that and he goes away with all of our congratulations.

“Wolves have paid us a lot of compliments; they’ve told me that over the two games they have played against us, we are the best team they have played.

“We go away slightly disappointed with some aspects but we are very proud of our performance especially in the second half.”
