Tony Thompson and Nicky Walker sign new deals...

Rotherham United duo Tony Thompson and Nicky Walker have both signed one-year professional contracts.

Both have come to the end of their two-year academy scholarships but have now penned their first professional deal.

“Tony and Nicky have made good progress and are fully deserving of the young professional contracts they have now signed,” manager Steve Evans told www.themillers.co.uk

“This is a very early stage in their careers and it is now up to them to make further progress from being a development squad player to earn a place in the first-team squad proper. I would expect both lads to have some involvement in our lesser profile pre-season matches.”

Midfielder Walker, 18, made his professional debut last season coming on as a late substitute during the 4-2 home victory over Cheltenham Town. He also appeared off the bench in the FA Cup win at Notts County and the home win over Accrington Stanley.

Goalkeeper Thompson, 18, is yet to make his first-team bow but has been in the senior matchday squad on 25 occasions covering for the injured Scott Shearer.
