Rotherham United were knocked out of the Youth Alliance Cup after defeat against Accrington Stanley in the second round.

The Millers fell behind in the first-half but levelled through a Jerry Yates penalty before Accrington advanced to round three with a late winner.

“We went 1-0 down after a poor first half showing but the lads got back into the game levelling the scores before playing much better in the second 45,” said Garreth Barker.

“We created four or five good chances but didn’t put them away, we need to be more clinical in front of goal, and Mike (Sheron) has worked on some finishing training this week to try and improve in this area.

“With two minutes to go a mistake has cost us from a ball into the box so it was a very disappointing afternoon. We said to the lads afterwards that we can’t expect to put in a performance for half a game and expect to come away with a win.”

Team: Denton; Gibson, Peace-McDonald, Hallatt, Shelley, Rose (Muskwe 45), Wiles, Fenton (Johnson 85), Warren, Yates, Norfolk (Potts 65).

Unused: Bilboe, Bailey.
