Garreth Barker – Academy Manager

Garreth Barker joined the Millers ahead of the 2013/14 season to take up the role of Academy Manager.

Barker, who comes from across the Pennines has spent much of his career close to home, following spells with Blackpool, Preston North End and most recently Bolton Wanderers.

Rotherham-born Matt, is no stranger to the Millers, previously lining up against them for Macclesfield Town and Notts County in recent years, as well as being in opposition at Don Valley and Millmoor for Mansfield Town and of course Sheffield Wednesday.

However, what people may not realise is that whilst he’s been a thorn in the side of the Millers on the field, he had been working with his hometown club as a part-time coach with various youth teams.

After his contract with Macclesfield Town ran out in the summer of 2012, Matt made the switch into full-time coaching with the Millers, whilst continuing to play in the Evo-Stick League for Stocksbridge Park Steels.

Taking on the role of Development Phase Lead Coach he oversaw the development of the 12-16 year old's at New York, whilst also coaching youngsters at Thomas Rotherham College.

In the close season of 2015 he stepped up to the role of Head of Academy Coaching.

Ciarán Toner - Development Phase Lead Coach

Ciarán stepped into the role of Development Phase Lead Coach after three years working for the Rotherham United Academy as a part-time coach.

After a playing career which saw him represent the likes of Tottenham Hotspur, Leyton Orient, Lincoln City, Grimsby Town and Northern Ireland, Ciarán switched his attention to coaching, working his way up the Millers' Academy coaching ladder.

He started his role as Development Phase Lead Coach in the autumn of 2015.

Jake's coaching career has seen him work predominantly with 5-12 year old elite players in the Foundation Phase at clubs such as Nottingham Forest, New York Red Bulls and Derby County, before moving into his role here in the Academy

Prior to joining the Millers, Jake worked with The Football Association based at St. George's Park, aiding the development of coaching and worked in conjunction with leading footballing nations such as Germany, Spain and France.

Jake joined the Academy in November 2015 as Lead Foundation Phase Coach.

Adrian Littlejohn joined the Academy during the close season of 2014.

He started his football journey as a professional firstly with Walsall before enjoying a stint in the Premier League with Sheffield United. Aidy also enjoyed successful spells with the likes of Plymouth Argyle, Oldham Athletic, Bury and Port Vale before ending a highly-successful playing career in non-league with Retford United.

Since retiring from professional football Aidy joined Sheffield United's Community team as Football Development Officer but has since moved into medical side of the game starting his association with the Millers by helping former Head of Medical Denis Circuit, before landing a role as an Academy physio eventually graduating to Head of Academy Physiotherapy.


Alison Sorsby - Youth Administrator



Club stalwart Alison Sorsby joined the Millers in 1982.

In her 32 years with the club she has taken on a number of roles including spells working in the club shop, ticket office and commercial department.

In her current role, amongst other important tasks as Youth Administrator, she oversees fixtures, venues, digs for scholars, transport and trials.

In July 2012 Alison also took on the joint role as Senior Administrator, adding first-team duties to her list of responsibilities.
