Will Vaulks speaks to www.themillers.co.uk...

Rotherham United midfielder Will Vaulks says he will be doing everything he can to secure a place in Alan Stubbs’ starting 11 for the Sky Bet Championship curtain raiser against Wolves.

The 22-year-old, who joined the Millers from Falkirk, donned a red and white shirt for the first time on Tuesday night in the club’s friendly with Scunthorpe United and is keen to instil himself into the manager’s plans ahead of 6th August.

“I’m just looking to try and impress the manager as much as I can before then and get my way into the team and I’m really looking forward to the big games that are ahead of us,” Vaulks told www.themillers.co.uk following the game at Glanford Park.

“I really enjoyed it, especially first half. I thought we played quite well and I managed to get quite a lot of the ball and settle myself into the game and I went on to enjoy it.

“I got a few shots off and I was maybe unlucky not to score one but I really enjoyed it and it was good to get in amongst the lads and get to know them and the way they play so it was brilliant.”

Vaulks believes he isn’t far off the full throttle speed of the Millers’ pre-season preparations having already featured for the Bairns north of the border and insists tests like the one posed by the Iron in midweek will benefit him ahead of the 2016/17 campaign.

“Obviously I’ve done my pre-season at Falkirk and played in quite a lot of pre-season games and one competitive one so hopefully I’m fit enough,” he explained.

“It was quite humid so it was hot and hard but I think that’s what we need before the season starts."
