Alan Stubbs talks to www.themillers.co.uk...

Rotherham United manager Alan Stubbs says the Millers had to move quickly to land sought after midfielder Will Vaulks.

Vaulks penned a three-year deal at AESSEAL New York Stadium this afternoon after the Millers agreed an undisclosed fee with the Scottish Championship club.

Vaulks, who started his career in England with Tranmere Rovers, played over 100 games during a successful spell at the Falkirk Stadium, and Stubbs is confident that the 22-year-old will be able to make the step up to Championship level.

“We’re delighted that he has signed for us because there were a number of clubs after his signature,” Stubbs told www.themillers.co.uk

“We have been monitoring his situation but literally over the last 16 hours it has accelerated. We have acted very quickly and managed to get Will here this morning. He has had the necessary medical and seen the doctors and I’m delighted that we’ve now concluded the deal.”

Vaulks is a versatile operator who has played in various positions across the back and in midfield.

He joined Falkirk in 2013 and came up against boss Stubbs several times during his stint as boss of Hibernian.

“He’s someone I came across in Scotland obviously from my time at Hibs,” Stubbs confirmed.

“He’s a young player and he’s combative. He has improved over the last couple of seasons since I’ve been in Scotland and he’ll give us a little bit of steel as he’s good at winning the ball back.

"He’s got a goal in him from midfield and the thing about him is that he’s still got untapped potential, and I think he is more than capable of making the step up to the Championship.

“For me, he was Falkirk’s main player. The thing that impressed me was that he performed in the bigger games. He will be a loss to Falkirk and hopefully that will be Rotherham’s gain.”

The Millers take on Sunderland tomorrow at AESSEAL New York Stadium, kick off 3pm.
