Richard Wood talks to www.themillers.co.uk...

Rotherham United defender Richard Wood is targeting ‘a big finish’ to the Championship season, starting with Saturday’s trip to Preston.

Following a tough campaign on the road, the experienced operator is looking to break the club’s away day hoodoo with their final game on the road at Deepdale this Saturday.

The former Sheffield Wednesday and Charlton skipper says the squad are mindful of what a win this weekend would do for the travelling supporters, who have continued to back the club in numbers up and down the country.

“The fans have been brilliant, it can’t have been easy following the club away from home this season,” the 31-year-old told www.themillers.co.uk

“We have been disappointed with the results, but we have produced some good performances recently. The fans gave us a great reception at Reading where I think they appreciated the effort of the players; we are all desperate now to put some smiles on faces with a positive result at Preston this weekend. We need a big finish to the season now."

After securing three points in their last outing against Ipswich Town, Wood says the mood around the AESSEAL New York Stadium has taken a noticeable lift.

After several near misses since the turn of the year, Wood believes it was high time the Millers enjoyed a change in fortunes, stating that it was important to continue the momentum into the final two games of the Championship season.

“There have been a few games this season where we have played well but not got what we have deserved,” Wood added.

“I think we were better than Ipswich and that was justified in the end result.

“Obviously we all want to win, so when you get that feeling back after such a long time, it gives everyone a boost. Morale has generally been good all season, but after last Saturday there has been an uplift in everyone’s spirits.

“We need to try and use the Ipswich result as a springboard to try and get two positive results in the last two games. It is important now to end the season on a high.”
