Will Vaulks talks to www.themillers.co.uk...

MIDFIELDER Will Vaulks admits he will be fulfilling a childhood dream if he steps out in Millers’ colours at St James’ Park on Saturday.

The self-confessed Newcastle fan is licking his lips at the prospect of lining up at the home of his boyhood club - in front of what is expected to be a bumper crowd in excess of 50,000 fans.

Despite the sentimental nature of the clash, Vaulks insisted exclusively to www.themillers.co.uk that his Millers’ side will be going all out to derail Newcastle’s promotion bandwagon.

“I’ve been a Newcastle fan all my life,” Vaulks admitted.

“To get the chance to play at St James’ will be a dream come true really but hopefully we can go up there and beat them. It will be the first time I want them to lose.”

With their lowly position at the foot of the Sky Bet Championship table, the Millers will be going into the North East contest with Rafael Benitez’s high-flying outfit as rank outsiders, but Vaulks insists his side can take considerable heart from last weekend’s eye-catching victory over Norwich City, which saw them revel in the role of underdog.

“I’m sure Norwich came up here and thought they would turn us over with ease as the table and stats do not lie, but we showed what we are about, in terms of character,” Vaulks insisted.

“We played a game that Norwich did not want to play and I think that’s what we’ll do at Newcastle, so hopefully we can nick something.”

In the Canaries clash, the ex-Falkirk midfielder was part of a trio in the midfield engine room alongside match-winner Tom Adeyemi and the returning Richie Smallwood.

Vaulks, who played a key role in the build-up to youngster Jerry Yates’ debut league goal, believes he is starting to find his find his feet in South Yorkshire after a difficult start to his career, following his summer move from north of the border.

“At the moment, it’s a case of getting as many games as I can,” Vaulks added.

“Earlier in the season, I was in, out, in and out of the side so I’m hoping to keep my place in the team and go from there. You have to play games to get up to the speed of the game you are playing at and thankfully, I’m now starting to get that.”
