Rotherham United’s Academy slipped to a narrow defeat to Lincoln City, but Academy manager Garreth Barker was pleased with aspects of his side’s performance.

The Millers made a good start to the new Youth Alliance season, despite being down on numbers due to injury and awaiting international clearance on some of their latest recruits.

Despite two narrow defeats in recent weeks, Barker remains upbeat about his side’s chances explaining that he side were unliucky to come away with nothing from their game with the Imps.

"It was a narrow defeat but overall not a bad performance,” Barker told www.themillers.co.uk

“We conceded a goal which we couldn't do much about, the defender did his job but the shot took a wicked deflection and there was nothing much we could do about it.

“We were then in the ascendancy, we played some good football but couldn't breakthrough. We are still without a number of players but that has given the schoolboys another chance to gain some vital experience. We played some good football, at a good tempo and created lots of opportunities. We just couldn't get the goal. We had two chances especially that should have gone in. One has literally hit the keeper and then we have hit the upright. It was just one of those games. We are not going to get downhearted about it. If we play like that when the stronger players are available then we will be fine.”
