Jake Henry talks to www.themillers.co.uk...

Rotherham United Lead Foundation Phase coach Jake Henry says he was delighted by the recent open trials that saw budding young goalkeepers in the Under 8s age group come from far and wide to try and earn a place in the club’s Academy.

The Millers opened the doors at the Academy’s training base at Sheffield Hallam University Sports Park to young stoppers last month where a specially tailored goalkeeper specific session took place, for the youngsters to try and impress the onlooking coaches.

The trials saw a handful of the attendees given another chance to impress, while Jake expressed his thanks to everyone that took part on the night.

“The goalkeeping trials were really well attended and we had 20 goalkeepers in the under 7s and under 8s come along,” he told www.themillers.co.uk.

“We invited two of them to come and play for us against Doncaster Rovers and a further two have been along to do some extra training with our goalkeeping coach Rob Poulter.

“We really want to thank everyone for coming down and a lot of people travelled a long way as well,” he continued.

“It's great to get these lads in the programme so early and it's brilliant for us that they are showing an interest in getting involved with us at such a young age.

“We hope we can get some more open trials in for a number of age groups before the end of the season. If we don't there will definitely be some in the summer, before we come back for the start of the new campaign."
