Rotherham United’s youngsters’ impressive string of victories came to an end on Saturday as they were defeated 3-1 by Hartlepool United in the Youth Alliance League.
Following successive wins over Bradford City, Mansfield Town and Oldham Athletic, Garreth Barker’s side tasted defeat as the sides met in the North East at Blackhall Colliery Welfare Park.
On the scoresheet for the Millers was trialist Akeel Francis, who also featured in the club’s reserve outing against York City in the week previously, but his strike after coming on as a substitute served as little more than a consolation as Pools ran out winners on home turf.
Millers | Fidler, Maguire (Martin 56), Hinds, Murr, Atherton, Naeem, Phillips (Francis 56), Wiles, Kayode, McGinley (Mvumbi 67), Wilson.
Unused | McMahon, Southern-Cooper.
