The Rotherham United first team squad have come together to make a donation to the official Supporters’ Club, whose members have followed their team up and down the country this season.

As a thank you gesture for their unwavering support during what has been a tough season for the club on the road, the players wanted to give something back to the supporters who have spent their hard earned money all season, ahead of the final away game of the campaign at Preston this weekend.

On Friday, Brian Rowbotham, travel organiser, and Ray Nettleton, treasurer, of the Supporters’ Club, joined members of the first team at AESSEAL New York Stadium for a photo prior to skipper Frecklington handing over the funds.

Frecklington took time to explain the players’ decision to donate to the fans, whilst acknowledging their support throughout a tough season for the club.

“I think it started off when we were extremely disappointed with the result at Cardiff and the distance that people had travelled to watch a performance like the one we produced,” Frecklington told www.themillers.co.uk.

“We didn't feel that was acceptable so then to repeat it at QPR, I felt personally like we owed the fans something to thank them for travelling all that way.

“Fans spend a fortune to go and watch football matches and it's not cheap nowadays. We appreciate all the people that come and watch us and like Brian and Ray, a lot of people have given up endless weekends to watch the club and it would be nice if we could finish the season by giving something back.

“Hopefully next year can be more positive and we can give them something to shout about and have an enjoyable year like we did last time that we were in League One.”

Travel organiser Brian was quick to express his gratitude for the donation upon meeting members of the first team whilst wishing the Club the best for the remainder of the current campaign.

“We’re delighted that the players have decided to donate to the Supporters’ Club and we’re really grateful to them as well,” Brian told www.themillers.co.uk.

“We’ve covered a lot of miles, as many Millers fans have this year, and it has been tough at times but we’ve never thought twice about going to the games.

“On behalf of everyone that has travelled with Rotherham United Supporters’ Club over the course of the last season, I would like to thank all the players that donated and wish them all the best in the final two games of 16/17 and next year."
