Rotherham United hosted the 2016/17 Season Dinner at AESSEAL New York Stadium on Saturday which saw the end of season awards handed out, as supporters, players and staff came together in the lounge following the home game with Ipswich Town.

Club Chairman Tony Stewart and manager Paul Warne spoke in front of the gathered sponsors and supporters before awards including the Player of the Year, Young Player of the Year and Goal of the Season were handed out.

The Millers’ leading goalscorer Danny Ward picked up the main prize as he was crowned the club’s Player of the Year sponsored by KCM Recycling.

The former Huddersfield Town attacker was back on the stage later in the evening with his fellow players voting him as their choice as the Players’ Player of the Year, with Jon Taylor and Richard Wood finishing as runners-up.

Jerry Yates’ development this season has seen him break into the first team fold, scoring his first league goal for the club in the home win over Norwich City, in addition to getting his name on the scoresheet in the EFL Cup meeting with Morecambe. His form in 2016/17 saw him claim the Cascade Drainage Young Player of the Year award on Saturday night.

As ever, the guests in attendance put their fingers on the buzzers to decide who would take home the Goal of the Season trophy by an interactive vote. Strikes from Joe Newell at QPR and Fulham and Danny Ward against Birmingham City were amongst  the contenders, but it was midfielder Will Vaulks who claimed the prize sponsored by Heineken, for his stunning opening day strike against Wolverhampton Wanderers.

After another successful year for the club in the community, which resulted in the RUCST claiming the regional Community Club of the Year award for a second year running, there were a number of candidates for the Community Player of the Year Award. However, it was club captain Lee Frecklington that scooped the trophy on Saturday night.
