Reserves narrowly defeated by Bantams...

A youthful Rotherham United reserve side were defeated 1-0 in the dying seconds of the game in their Central League Cup outing at Bradford City on Tuesday afternoon.

A side led by Matt Hamshaw made up of Mason Warren, alongside first year professionals and scholars travelled to West Yorkshire and Woodhouse Grove School to face an experienced Bantams side.

The likes of Rory McArdle, Nathan Clarke and Matt Kilgallon provided the opposition in the club’s first action in the second string cup competition and there was nothing to separate the two teams until the 91st minute, when the hosts dealt a young Millers’ side a cruel blow with the only goal of the game.

Hamshaw was delighted with his side’s display, in spite of the scoreline, admitting it was hard to see their efforts undone by the Bantams’ late winner.

“We're really disappointed that the lads haven't got the result that their effort deserved and to concede in the 91st minute left us with a few disappointed faces, but we all have really because we felt like we probably should have won the game,” he told www.themillers.co.uk.

“I'm really pleased and it's a big improvement. I thought our shape in and out of possession was very good and on another day we could have scored a couple of goals against a strong Bradford team.”
