Rotherham United manager Alan Stubbs says his side will be looking to build on their unbeaten start at AESSEAL New York Stadium in the Sky Bet Championship when they welcome Cardiff City on Saturday.The Millers are yet to taste league defeat on home soil in 2016/17 and Stubbs is keen to see his side turn performances into points and put together a run that will help the club climb the table.
“We’ve got to make sure that we make it as tough for them on Saturday as we have done for the rest of the teams that have come to AESSEAL New York Stadium,” he told www.themillers.co.uk.
“We have to try and build on some of the performances that we’ve had and turn them into three points and look to keep progressing up the table.”
With just eight games of the second tier season played the Millers boss believes that the table may look different come May next year and says a couple of positive results could change the position of any side.
“I think when you look at the division it’s still very tight,” Stubbs continued.
“There are teams when you look at the table that you wouldn’t expect to be in the positions there in and there’s still a long way to go.
“It’s amazing what two wins could reflect in the table at this moment in time. Do that and you’re probably looking at being in the top 10, that’s how small the gaps are between everybody and that’s what we need to be looking at.”
Meanwhile, Stubbs is aware of the threats that the Bluebirds will pose upon their arrival in South Yorkshire despite them enduring a torrid start to the season and is keen to ensure they don’t see an upturn in form on Saturday.
“They still have quality and a big squad of players to choose from and they are looking for a result to kickstart their season and get them going,” he continued.
“As far as we’re concerned, they can start their run next midweek, but not on Saturday.
“I think it goes to show that confidence is huge in football. You look at the Premier League last season and nobody would have envisaged Leicester to do what they did, but that was a result of getting wins and keeping the momentum going. That’s what we have to look at."
