Alan Stubbs post Huddersfield Town...

Rotherham United manager Alan Stubbs again praised his side for their character after a narrow 2-1 defeat to Huddersfield Town at the John Smith’s Stadium.

The Millers were behind early to an Elias Kachunga strike, but levelled through former Terriers front man Danny Ward. After Nahki Wells restored Huddersfield’s lead, the Millers came on strong in the second half going close to claiming a valuable point.

Stubbs again was happy with the character shown by his players but was disappointed at going behind early, and was unhappy that a free-kick wasn’t awarded to his side in the build up to Huddersfield’s second goal.

“When you have such a poor start to the game that we had, then to respond, then we have seen a lot of character in the team,” Stubbs said.

“I have questioned myself about whether they had that, but I think that tonight they answered that to me. In the end we could have gained a point from the game.

“The players stopped because it was handball. Players are very rarely wrong when they stop, it was a foul.”

Despite the early setback to the now league leaders, Stubbs was pleased with how his side didn’t buckle against strong opposition.

The Millers created several opportunities after half-time, and came closest when Tom Adeyemi headed wide from close range.

Deespite the defeat, Stubbs says he took plenty from the game:

“We have come here, and after a really poor start, we grew into the game and got ourselves back into it. We have some good opportunities to take something from the game.

“You can see that Huddersfield are a team that are playing with a lot of confidence, they have some very good players and you can see why they are top of the league.

“It was by far a better performance away from home, there is no denying that. But we have come away with nothing. Yes, it is a plus in terms of the performance, and it is a plus that I thought that the team showed a lot of character. I said to them a couple of weeks ago it is small margins for a dozen teams in this league, there is not an awful lot between them. I say it again, we probably have three or four opportunities to clear the first goal, we have to do better. I'll keep beating the drum until they get it right. It is the only way because we are not good enough to give teams a start.”
