Alan Stubbs talks to www.themillers.co.uk...

Rotherham United boss Alan Stubbs has called for his players to start ‘putting their bodies on the line’ on a more consistent basis as they look to change their fortunes in the Sky Bet Championship.

The Millers manager is confident that the attitude is right in the dressing room but says it is now up to his players to prove that on the pitch ahead of Tuesday night’s trip to Huddersfield Town.

“They have to show people that there is character here,” Stubbs told www.themillers.co.uk.

“First of all they need to show themselves and then myself, the fans and everybody that there is character there. I know it’s there but they have to start showing it on a much more consistent basis.

“Sometimes it’s about how much you’re prepared to throw your body on the line to stop the opposition getting a header, or getting in front of you at a set piece and staying 100% concentrated until the ball has been cleared and if we’re being honest, there hasn’t been enough of that.”

Stubbs continued to add that the ruthless nature of the second tier will not wait for the Millers to lick their wounds and insists results will turn in their favour if they show their resolve.

“Feeling sorry for yourself doesn’t do anything,” he added.

“We have to stick our chests out and be more resilient and if you do that then you’ve got a better chance of getting results. There will be nobody feeling sorry for themselves here.”

The Millers boss also took time to reflect on Saturday’s defeat to Cardiff City and admitted he felt that his side were unfortunate not to take anything from the game.

“I think sometimes when the game has finished you reflect on it and I can’t remember Campy making a save in the game,” Stubbs explained.

“That’s what makes it all the more frustrating. You see their staff come in at the end of the game and there’s a look and something in the way they’re talking that they can’t believe they’ve taken three points from the game."
