Rotherham 2 v 0 Lincoln - Report

Rotherham United moved back into the automatic promotion places after a 2-0 home victory over struggling Lincoln City. Once again the Millers hero was Adam Le Fondre who scored two scorching goals, the first a thunderbolt strike from 18 yards and the second a spectacular bicycle kick from a Tom Pope cross. Ronnie Moore gave full debuts to new signings Gary Roberts and Adam Rundle and it was Rundle who created the first chance of the game when his cross caught Janos Kovacs and deflected just wide of the post. On 20 minutes Rundle was again involved when his centre was headed just wide by Kevin Ellison. Lincoln had their 'keeper Rob Burch to thank for keeping them level when he tipped over an Ellison shot after a pull back by Le Fondre. Two minutes later and Burch this time denied Nick Fenton from close range and then the re-bound fell to Le Fondre whose strike was deflected over. The Millers' pressure finally then paid off in the 37th minute when a long clearance from his own half by Pope was missed by the Imps defence. Le Fondre showed his predatory instincts to latch onto the loose ball, then drive into the area before crashing a shot past Burch and into the roof of the net. Five minutes before the break Lincoln almost levelled when captain Scott Kerr struck a looping half volley which was tipped over by Andy Warrington at full stretch. Half time Rotherham United 1 v 0 Lincoln City After a fairly pedestrian start to the second half it was Lincoln who had the first real opportunity with 20 minutes remaining. Former Miller Jamie Clarke beat Andy Nicholas for pace before pulling the ball back to Rene Howe who dragged his shot wide. With 10 minutes remaining the Millers added a second to seal the points. Pope was again the provider when his cross found Le Fondre who unleashed a stunning bicycle kick which beat Burch and slammed into the back of the net. In the 89th minute Le Fondre was given the perfect opportunity to convert a hat-trick when the Millers were awarded a penalty. Le Fondre himself was brought down in the box by Kovacs and he picked himself up, sent the 'keeper the wrong way, but side footed the ball wide of the post.
