If you’re coming to AESSEAL New York Stadium, why not make a day of it and visit the town centre and other nearby attractions.  Rotherham is a thriving borough in South Yorkshire, home to over 250,000 residents and part of a large borough (118 square miles), which is 70% rural with beautiful countryside and picturesque villages only a short journey away.  At the heart of the borough is the town centre, an attractive, compact location with pedestrianised shopping areas overlooked by the magnificent Rotherham Minster. Rotherham Town Centre is a bustling and vibrant place to shop with over 400 businesses including a mixture of high street favourites, small independent retailers, cafes and restaurants, as well as lively indoor and outdoor markets.

If you fancy a full on shopping trip then Rotherham’s Parkgate Shopping offers great shops approximately only one mile north of Rotherham town centre. Shops include Primark, Next, Sports Direct and many more.

If you’re looking for somewhere to eat then we have all the high street outlets including McDonalds, Subway and Greggs. However, if you’re looking for a sit down meal and a drink then there are a number of traditional pubs in town including a JD Wetherspoons right in the heart of the town centre.   *

Rotherham United Community Trust throw open the doors to their Goal Zone Centre every home matchday at AESSEAL New York Stadium.

The facility is free to enter to supporters who are season ticket holders or have purchased tickets for the match, with pre-match entertainment provided for kids who are arriving early for the match. The goal zone also welcomes away supporters who are visiting the AESSEAL New York Stadium to support their team.

The centre, which is situated next to the Players’ Entrance in the main West Stand, includes an Xbox console, table tennis table, a reaction wall, indoor games plus TV screens of the early kick off for young fans to enjoy before the main event of watching the Millers.

Rotherham United’s Head of Community Jamie Noble said: “Following the Community Sports Trust’s move to the AESSEAL New York Stadium we have looked at several ways where we can make our new facilities available on matchdays.

“We feel the Goal Zone is the perfect place to visit prior to the game giving families the option of a matchday experience that doesn’t just include arriving for the 90 minutes.

“The Goal Zone is one of several ways in which the club are striving to improve our matchday experience for families, and allowing access to this facility for free we feel it is the perfect way to get ready for 3pm when the Millers take to the field.”

The centre is open Saturday matchdays from 1pm and from around 6pm for midweek evening kick offs, but children attending must be accompanied by an adult.

Meet our Mascot – Miller Bear

RUFC v Coventry City - 200 - Miller Bear.jpg

Families coming to watch us at AESSEAL New York Stadium should keep an eye out for our resident club mascot Miller Bear.

Miller can be found around the grounds prior to kick off on home matchdays and you’ll see him banging his drum in support of the team when the game is underway.

He makes regular appearances in the Goal Zone and is usually on hand in the Ben Bennett Family Stand to meet supporters.

Here are Miller’s tips for enjoying the match…

• Buy your tickets in advance of the day of the match. That way you’ll get to pick your ideal seats and you’ll save money on the matchday price.

• Try and arrive at the ground at least half an hour before the match; this will allow you to enjoy the pre-match entertainment and keep queuing times down to a minimum.

• Visit our website to find the answers to any specific questions or queries you might have about visiting the AESSEAL New York Stadium, such as directions and parking.

• If you’re coming as a family or with young children we’d recommend the Ben Bennett Family East Stand as that’s where I’ll be entertaining the crowd. Also if you’re under 8 years old you’ll get to come to the game for £2 (Ben Bennett Family Stand only).

• Keep an eye out for me. I’ll be outside the ground before the game from 1.45pm for a 3pm kick off, and I will be joined from time-to-time by a Rotherham United player to sign autographs and have photos taken. During the game I’ll be in front of the Ben Bennett family stand on hand to entertain and cheer on the Millers.

Extra information for bringing children to AESSEAL New York Stadium

• We would recommend you purchase your tickets in the Ben Bennett Family East Stand as this is specifically for families and young children; as a result there are discounts available depending on the child’s age.

• Miller Bear will be in and around the stadium so your children will be able to see him and have their picture taken with him.

• The club shop is located in the Eric Twigg Foods and Pukka Pies West Stand where you will find a variety of low cost souvenirs and child friendly items.

• Don’t forget to look at the Junior Millers section of the Millers’ programme, on sale in and around the stadium on matchdays.

Miller Bear has his own twitter account so why not give him a follow by clicking here.
