Rotherham United are delighted to confirm the capture of striker Jonson Clarke-Harris, who will return to AESSEAL New York Stadium following the expiration of his contract at Peterborough United. The move is subject to ratification from the FA and EFL.

The prolific forward has penned a two-year contract to be reunited with former manager Steve Evans, who made Clarke-Harris the club’s then-record signing ahead of the 2014/15 Sky Bet Championship campaign, when he prised him away from Oldham Athletic.

The Millers boss has been quick to tie up his first summer signing following the issuing of his 2023/24 retained list, with talks with the highly sought after 29-year-old reaching a rapid conclusion.

During his time at AESSEAL New York Stadium, Clarke-Harris found the net 10 times, including a long range stunner to beat Leeds United in October 2014, his first goal in Millers colours.

Following a spell with Coventry City, Clarke-Harris made a move to Bristol Rovers in January 2019 and it was with the Gas where he began to find the net on a regular basis, scoring 26 times in 51 appearances in all competitions.

His form did not go unnoticed and it was Peterborough United who won the race for his services, with Clarke-Harris completing a money-move to London Road in the summer of 2020. And he continued to find the net on a regular basis for Posh.

In his first campaign, he struck 33 times in 49 appearances in all competitions, firing his side to promotion and securing the Sky Bet League One Golden Boot in the process. The Leicester-born operator scored 12 times in the second tier before again securing the third tier Golden Boot the following year, with 29 goals in 54 games in all competitions.

Renowned for being dominant in the air and clinical inside the penalty box, Clarke-Harris leaves London Road in fifth position in the club’s all-time Football League top scorer list, with 78 goals in 166 appearances and will be looking to continue his devastating form in front of goal when he returns to AESSEAL New York Stadium ahead of the 2024/25 campaign.

Rotherham United boss Steve Evans will sit down on camera to discuss the capture of his first signing in the coming days.
